Traffic is a problem in countries world wide.
Here's an idea out of China that looks a little more futuristic than rail the straddling bus.
With highways congested traffic planners are looking vertical.
The Highway Sky Mover as it is called straddles two lanes and carries 1,400 passengers.
It's also electric, but runs on relays set up along the road instead of a constant power line.
The vice president of the Chinese company developing the sky mover met with UH professor Panos Prevedouros and several engineering students today.
They are talking with U.S. countries to make the design a reality.
"You take absolutely no space," said UH Professor of Engineering Panos Prevedouros. "If you have a big enough street you only reserve two lanes for lower height cars that taller cars can use the remaining lanes, so there's no conflict."
Prevedorous says the problem is fitting the system into existing cities with enough lanes, which may be difficult in parts of Hawaii.
He also said the project would need a psychological study to determine how drivers would deal with a? large object approaching them from behind and moving over them.
