Certain pieces software have become synonymous with design in today?s digital world. As you may have guessed,?Powerpoint is not one such example. Yet ?powerpoint? is searched for almost 700,000 times a month making it one of the most popular pieces of software among corporates.
I finished designing a Financial Powerpoint Template Pack a while ago. I figured that with all the financial talk in the world there would be a lot of people wanting to either drum up new business or try and save their current business and that would probably involve a presentation or two.
It was my first time really diving into Powerpoint from a creative point of view and with this program being used so often in the corporate world you?d wonder why more emphasis isn?t put on template design. Especially considering it?s usually being used in front of your client.
This is why: Powerpoint isn?t design software. It?s not made for designers so they tend to steer clear of it and those who have used it get frustrated by it?s lack of Adobe?ness.
I?ll use the typeface conundrum as an example. Designer?s like using designer fonts and Powerpoint does not like to use designer fonts. ?Using a non-standard font requires the font to be installed on the machine that?s being used to design the template and on the machine that you?re going to be presenting?on. Pretty logical right?
So of course Powerpoint has a fairly well hidden option to embed the font into the presentation, which would seem like a great idea because then you can design the presentation on one computer and present it on another, except it doesn?t work. Powerpoint is super selective as to what fonts it can embed. OpenType is out of the picture and only specific TrueType font?s can be embedded. As soon as designers run into a logistical?problem like that they throw up their hands in grief and pass the time playing Angry Birds.
Creating a?presentation?template then, requires a bit of a developer?s state of mind in some areas to make sure that it works as well as looks good.
If you?re running a small business the best solution here, in my opinion, is to use a template and a designer. ?A pre-designed and developed Powerpoint template tailored for business or corporate use and a local designer to customize it specifically for your business.
Head over to GraphicRiver and find a template to your liking. They?re all designed by designers and they?ve all been?rigorously?tested as part of the sales policy. ?Then get a local designer to modify it using your corporate colors and typefaces.
This option doesn?t cost you much and, more importantly, saves a whole heap of time.
