DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Three races, three wrecks. Even if it wasn't really her fault, Danica Patrick went 0-for-Daytona.
Patrick got caught in a crash on just the second lap of her Daytona 500 debut Monday, a continuation of a week's worth of troubles at Daytona International Speedway. After her crew made extensive repairs to her car, she got back in the race and finished 38th.
After noting that she was disappointed for any new fans who might have tuned in to watch her race, Patrick acknowledged that she also was disappointed for herself.
"I would have loved to have run up there. I would have loved to have got the experience when you actually were racing for positions as opposed to just feeling it out," Patrick said. "But I truly believe everything happens for a reason."
The accident came just minutes after the green flag dropped Monday night, beginning when Elliott Sadler turned five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson. He shot into the wall, then rolled back down the track.
Patrick was coming along behind the accident and was caught in the chaos.
"I mean, I was pretty speechless," Patrick said. "I didn't really know what to say. I just pretty much kept my mouth shut and just sat there. Just breathe."
Her car took a hit and swerved down to the infield grass, where she somehow slid between two spinning cars. That was about the only good luck she's had all week.
She was wrecked at the end of Thursday's qualifying race, taking a hard hit.
Patrick then won the pole position for the Nationwide race on Saturday, becoming the first woman to win a NASCAR pole since Shawna Robinson in 1994, but she wrecked after her car was bumped by JR Motorsports teammate Cole Whitt.
Then came Monday, when Patrick once again was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Hey, at least she didn't hit a jet dryer, right?
"Nobody's hit a jet dryer before," Patrick said. "Good thing everybody's OK."
That distinction was reserved for Juan Pablo Montoya, whose collision with a vehicle used to dry off the track caused a huge fireball that delayed the race more than two hours.
After that bizarre episode was over and the race resumed, Patrick's main goal was to stay out of the leaders' way.
"As it got later and later in the race, I just didn't want to play a part," Patrick said. "I didn't want to have an influence on it. I didn't want something to happen."
Patrick figures the main lesson to take away from Speedweeks is to stay up front to avoid wrecks.
"The further up front you are, the better off you are," Patrick said. "But then again, you need that experience to get further up front, which is what I'm trying to get."
Patrick thanked her crew for its hard work to repair her car.
After the crash, Patrick's No. 10 team worked furiously, with crew members wielding new parts, heavy-duty tape, tools and even a welding torch.
She remained strapped into her car as the laps ticked away until her crew finally wheeled the car out of the garage. She fired the engine back up, getting cheers from fans watching from a balcony above the garage area.
"I'm sure this is not new territory for a new driver," Patrick said. "I just wish it could have gone better for everybody that was so excited, especially the fans. It was great to see them cheering all around the track."
It was the continuation of a disappointing Speedweeks for Patrick, who left IndyCar to concentrate full time on NASCAR this season. Daytona is one of 10 Sprint Cup Series races Patrick plans to run for Stewart-Haas Racing this season.
She's also running a full season in the Nationwide Series for JR Motorsports.
Neither project is off to a flying start, but she figures there must be some lesson to take away.
"I just wish the beginning of the race could have been a nice single-file line like it was when I got back out there, but it wasn't," Patrick said. "And honestly, that's my lesson to learn, maybe. Write off that first little bit if you're not up front."

The Obama Administration plans to force active duty service members and veterans off the military?s current health care plan, Tricare, and into ObamaCare?s state-run healthcare exchanges by increasing Tricare premiums between 30 percent to 78 percent the first year and a crushing 94 percent to 345 percent every five years thereafter.
Obama?s plan, which is sparking a major controversy within the Pentagon, is set to go into effect after the 2012 presidential election and will not apply to unionized civilian defense workers? benefits.
The Washington Free Beacon?s Bill Gertz reports that, ?According to congressional assessments, a retired Army colonel with a family currently paying $460 a year for health care will pay $2,048,? thereby all but guaranteeing service members and vets will be forced to enter ObamaCare.
Sources close to the controversy fear the radical healthcare restructuring will significantly hurt military recruitment:
?We shouldn?t ask our military to pay our bills when we aren?t willing to impose a similar hardship on the rest of the population,? Rep. Howard ?Buck? By comparison, Mr. Obama spent $20.5 billion on his Department of Energy green energy grants and loans program, 80 percent of which went to companies owned or tied to Mr. Obama?s top fundraisers.

To constantly fight against sin is a big part of mortification.? We need to recognize the enemy we are dealing with and that he is to be destroyed by all means possible.? The battle is a hazardous one that deals with issues of eternity.? When a man sees his lust as a trivial thing, it is an indication that he is not mortified.? We cannot go forward unless we recognize the danger of our own hearts.? We need to be intimately acquainted with the ways, wiles, methods, advantages, and occasions in which lust has won the victory.? This is the way that men deal with their enemies.? They search out their plans, ponder their goals, and consider how and by what means they have prevailed in the past.? Then, they can be defeated.? This is a most important strategy.? If you do not utilize this great strategy, your warfare is very primitive.? We need to know how sin uses occasions, opportunities, and temptations to gain advantage.? Introduction
Income tax was first extended to Ireland in 1853 by Gladstone who was Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time. Economists and political theorists differ slightly in identifying and classifying the criteria that are used to evaluate systems of taxation and individual tax measures but they seem to be in agreement that equity, efficiency and simplicity are all beneficial characteristics of a ?good? tax system.
For raising public finance in most modern economies, taxation has been the favored method. ?The burden of taxation? arises because of the prodigy that the reliance on taxation to raise public finance creates. Tax is also used to transfer resources from wealthy members of society to the less well off in an equitable manner.
Tax is distributed into three different categories: Schedule D, Schedule E and Schedule F. Schedule D is then sub-divided into four different cases, Case 1, Trading Profits, ? Case 2, Self-Employed professionals e.g. barristers or doctors, Case 3, National
Loan Stock/Foreign Income, Case 4, D.I.R.T., Account Interest and Case 5, Rental Income. Schedule E deals with emoluments from employment/ P.A.Y.E., while Schedule F deals with Irish Company Dividends. We will be dealing with Schedule E when we discuss Income Tax.
Part 1: Amendments to Income Tax
The main amendments that the Minister introduced in relation to the Income Tax code are the introductions of tax credits, the increase of tax bands, and the reduction in the Income tax rates and the increase in the old age pension rate.
Reduction in Income Tax Rates
The Amendment to the income tax rate was the reduction of both the standard and higher tax rates. In 1996/ 97 the standard rate was 27% and the higher rate was 48%. These rates have been decreased substantially by the Minister for Finance during his time in office. In 2003 the standard rate was 20% and the higher rate was reduced to 42%. See table 1.2

I'm going to post that new "Wrath Of The Titans" trailer in a few, but it's interesting that this would show up on the same day that Variety breaks the news that Dwayne Johnson is going to star in "Big Duh: The Motion Picture."? Wait? sorry? it's "Hercules."? That's what he's starring in. That's what he was genetically created to do, truth be told, so it's good that MGM and Brett Ratner are figuring his deal out.
That's a great break for Ratner, and I think he's going to probably be a good collaborator for Johnson, whose "Team Bring It" attitude travels from set to set with him.? I've seen him work on what must be four or five films in a row now, and he sets a certain energy that everyone else keys in on.? Dwayne Johnson is a major asset to a franchise if the franchise has any juice at all.? He is a big part of what went right with "Fast Five," and he's absolutely at the heart of the "G.I. Joe" reboot.?
Even "Journey 2" gets what little mileage it gets out of him, because he's always working when he's in a scene, always trying to find something to make it work.? He's as dedicated to the little stuff as he is to the big stunt work.? He's an old-fashioned movie star who understands his own image, and he's been very canny so far about how he's played with his iconography.
It's little wonder people want to tackle material like Hercules and Greek mythology right now.? FX are at a point where the wondrous is commonplace (a cultural issue we're going to have to deal with at some point) and these are characters and stories that belong to the public domain, but that carry a huge cumulative recognition factor.? This is why we've got two "Snow White" movies this year.? This is why we'll see "Jack The Giant Killer" and "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" and any number of other fairy tale spins.? You can keep bending these archetypes any number of different ways, and it's interesting and exciting because of people's familiarity with the thing.
This particular take is said to be based on the Radical Comics series "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," with Ryan Condal adapting Steve Moore's book.? It's much more "300" than "The Scorpion King," and I'm not surprised to see that this sort of approach is what Johnson would want to do.? He's been trying on all these different franchises because he still hasn't found the one that's the perfect fit.? He's trying a lot of different things with a lot of different filmmakers right now.? I'm fascinated by Michael Bay's "Pain and Gain," which is sure to be different than anything else in the director's filmography, and I look forward to seeing what they do with him and Vin Diesel and that huge rolling ensemble for "Fast Six," or whatever they finally call it.
We'll see how fast this comes together.? Obviously, Johnson's a busy guy, but since he seems to always be on the move, this could turn out to be one of the 86 different feature films he makes this year.

Netflix bolsters video library as new threat looms
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Netflix's Internet video service is adding more marquee attractions as it braces for a new competitive threat from cable-TV provider Comcast Corp.
As part of an effort to offer more exclusive material, Netflix locked up the right to show "The Artist" and other movies from The Weinstein Co. before the films are released to leading pay-TV channels such as Showtime and HBO.
Just a few hours after Tuesday's announcement about that multiyear deal, Comcast unveiled plans to undercut Netflix with a less expensive version of a service that will stream old TV series and movies to devices with high-speed Internet connections.
The Comcast service, called Xfinity Streampix, will be available this week to the company's subscribers. It will cost $5 per month, below Netflix's $8 monthly price for its Internet-streaming service. Some Comcast customers who pay for multiple services, including high-speed Internet access and phone, will get Streampix at no additional cost.
Although it appears Netflix's library is more extensive, Streampix could be good enough for some households looking to supplement their cable-TV service with a package that has on-demand video on computers and mobile devices.
That possibility apparently unnerved some investors who have long worried about Netflix losing its early lead in Internet video as more rivals enter the market. Netflix's stock lost $4.45, or 3.7 percent, to close Tuesday at $117.40.
Comcast, which is based in Philadelphia, will join two other large companies, Amazon.com Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., already offering video streaming services. Earlier this month, Verizon Communications Inc. announced that it is teaming up with Redbox's DVD rental-kiosk network to introduce an Internet video service later this year. The pricing for the Verizon-Redbox venture hasn't been disclosed.
Netflix, which is based in Los Gatos, Calif., also offers a DVD-by-mail rental service. But that has been losing millions of customers in recent months as the company has intensified its focus on the streaming service.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has said that he views cable TV as his company's biggest worry. So far, Hastings has identified Time Warner Inc.'s HBO channel as Netflix's toughest competition, but that could change if a cable provider such as Comcast can develop a compelling service.
By countering Netflix, Comcast hopes to hold on to customers, many of whom have been canceling their cable subscriptions to save money. Some of those former subscribers have been able to get their entertainment fixes from Netflix, whose Internet streaming service began this year with 21.7 million U.S. subscribers.
Comcast, by contrast, had 22.3 million video subscribers after losing 459,000 customers last year.
Based on the line-up included in Tuesday's announcement, Streampix will have much of the video already available on Netflix. The list of overlapping selections includes the past seasons of popular TV series such as "The Office" and "Lost" and older movies such as "Brokeback Mountain" and "The Big Lebowski."
Recently, Netflix has been trying to differentiate itself by buying the rights to more original series ? a strategy that has worked well for HBO and CBS Corp.'s Showtime.
The licensing agreement with Weinstein marks another step in Netflix's push to hone its competitive edge.
Getting the streaming rights to critically acclaimed fare such as "The Artist," which is nominated for 10 Academy Awards, also may help Netflix keep its subscribers happy as other popular selections disappear from the service's video library. Netflix will lose the rights to stream many movies from Walt Disney Co. and other studios when a three-year licensing deal with the Starz Entertainment channel expires next week.
The Weinstein agreement will give Netflix some movies within a year of their release in movie theaters. Besides "The Artist," the deal covers foreign-language movies, documentaries and other films in the Weinstein vault. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

BANGKOK (AP) ? World stock markets were mostly lower Tuesday even as European leaders finally clinched a deal for a rescue package to prevent Greece from going belly up.
Benchmark oil hovered near $105 per barrel while the dollar fell against the euro but rose against the yen.
Shares in Europe opened lower, just hours after leaders reached an agreement on a financial rescue package for Greece, which is teetering on the brink of a major debt default.
Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.4 percent to 5,923.93 and Germany's DAX lost 0.3 percent to 6,927.46. France's CAC-40 shed 0.4 percent to 3,457.23.

With Israel claiming that time is running out to stop the Iranians, there are growing international concerns that the Israelis are preparing to attack Iran. The international community fears an Israeli strike could set off a region-wide war and roil global oil markets.
Though eager for an international campaign to halt the Iranians, Israel is wary of appearing to be leading the drive. Netanyahu had previously instructed his ministers to stop the "chitchat" about Iran to allow him to keep a uniform message.
But in a series of appearances Thursday, Israel's top brass expressed divergent opinions.
During a one-day trip to neighboring Cyprus, Netanyahu cited Iran's ceremonious TV broadcast Wednesday, which featured Ahmadinejad touring a Tehran research reactor, as evidence of progress.
"If anybody needed a reminder that sanctions so far haven't stopped Iran's nuclear program, it was the guided tour by Iran's president of the centrifuge halls yesterday," Netanyahu told reporters. "I hope that sanctions work but so far they haven't worked. We are witnessing a regime that breaks all the rules and has absolutely no respect for international norms."
Israel has accused Iran of being behind a string of attempted attacks this week on Israeli diplomats in India, Georgia and Thailand.
During a trip to Japan, Netanyahu's defense minister, Ehud Barak, played down the significance of the ceremony this week in Iran. He told Israel Radio that the Iranians are trying to portray their situation as "better than what it really is."
Barak dismissed Iran's televised presentation as a "show," saying that Iran wants to create the impression that its nuclear capabilities are now irreversible. He said Iran is trying to make it seem "like the point of no return is already behind them, which is not the case."
And one of Netanyahu's deputies, Moshe Yaalon, said the broadcast marked a sign of panic and weakness.
"Inflation and unemployment are high. There is also disquiet that is threatening the regime," Yaalon told Israel Radio. "We are seeing reactions that are in some ways hysterical."
Netanyahu himself has seemed to waver on the issue of sanctions against Iran. He has repeatedly called for tougher economic measures and expressed hope that the strong economic front would provide a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue.
